Jose had to do some work in Chicago this week. he asked me if i’d like to fly there with him and spend the long weekend together. well, duh ! i’ve been wanting to get out of here for a while and knowing this, Jose made plans for us to enjoy a well deserved break in the windy city.

Chicago, however, left much to be desired. a resident of south Florida, i realize i’m a little spoiled, but Chicago, i thought, was just kinda… blah. i’ve never seen such a large gathering of flat asses walking around in flip flops. it was hard to find food that i could actually eat. luckily we did find a whole foods market on happycow.net and went there a few times.

before i became vegan, chicago style was my favorite kind of pizza. i dreamed of someday having chicago style pizza in… well, Chicago. so we decided to give this a try. we went to a local pizzeria. i ordered the veggie special without cheese. my disappointment was quite obvious. suddenly a woman who was passing by and was obviously considering eating at this pizzeria, asked me if i enjoyed what i was having. i quickly responded: “no !” Jose then confessed his pizza wasn’t so hot either. i was somewhat relieved. if cheese couldn’t make his taste good, mine didn’t have a prayer.

after a couple of days in the blah city, we decided to spice things up and went to a local pier to watch the Labor Day fireworks. we then took a cab to “the” Coyote Ugly. again, it left much to be desired. it was nothing like the movie ! so Jose and i agreed to go back to the Signature Room on the 96th floor of the John Hancock building. we had been there the night before and had enjoyed a wonderful time. i was ecstatic that he would even consider going back there again ! this had to be one of the highlights of our trip. the view is absolutely spectacular (especially from the lil girl’s room) !

unfortunately, we weren’t able to take many pictures during our trip. but i have fond memories and will most likely return there in the future. Chicago may not be my kind of town, but it was my favorite city in the world when Jose and i held hands down the crowded streets.
