I simply love Indian food. I’ve actually been on an Indian kick this week because we had a cold front in South Florida. The temperatures actually dipped well into the 50’s. This semi-cold weather always makes me crave hot and spicy food, like curries. I decided to make Dahl.
1 tbsp olive oil
1 yellow onion, cut into small dice
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
2 tsp curry powder
1 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp ground coriander
1/4 tsp ground cardamom
1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp salt (or to taste)
8 cups water
14 oz dried yellow split peas
1. In a large pot, saute the onion in olive oil over medium heat until translucent.
2. Add the garlic, ginger, spices and salt. Saute for 2 minutes.
3. Add the water and split peas. Cover and bring to a boil.
4. Once water starts to boil, lower heat and simmer for about an hour, stirring occasionally.
I try to keep all my meals low on sodium, so feel free to add as much salt as you like. Jose and I both loved this this. You can serve it with brown rice, whole wheat pitas or both.

That looks delicious.
I don’t add sea salt to that many of my dishes. I don’t miss it.

I’m going to try this one SOON! Looks amazing!
What other kinds of peas or beans could you use instead of yellow split peas?
