it’s not the knee !
by mid-week, most of my pain had gone except for what appeared to be my knee. i finally made an appointment with my wonderful sports medicine doctor. after examining the injured area, he said it’s not my knee causing the pain after all. it’s my lateral condyle (lower outer part of my femur). he sent me off with a prescription for an MRI which i am having tomorrow at 11:30am. i’ll share the results as soon as i have them. the doctor thinks the bone could have hairline fracture or just be badly bruised. if it’s a fracture, i’ll need a brace for 6 weeks. if it’s just bruised then i will be able to moderately exercise through it. i’m hoping it’s just bruised.
the bad news of the week is that my insurance deductible is $1000. when i mentioned a “hefty deductible” in one of my previous posts, i had no idea HOW hefty it really was. yikes ! i think it’s terribly unfair that i have to pay for anything at all because of someone else’s negligence.
the good news is that i am free to do upper body weight training and swim as long as i use my leg buoy. yay ! i guess i’ll be draggin’ my limpin’ self to the beach this weekend.
yay!
time for a sand-body facial!
You rock, Speed Vegan! Your attitude throughout this whole debacle has been really great… I’m hoping it’s “just” a bruise, too, and that you can back up to usual level of activity soon. In the meantime, I’m glad you can swim and lift!
I agree with you in that you shouldn’t have to pay a cent. The insurance industry is SUCH a scam. It’s hard for me to beleive they can get away with what they do. I once had to make an insurance claim when my garage was robbed…and the hoops they made me jump through were ridiculous! Stay strong and I hope you recover soon.
Laura: i can’t wait ! call me !
Orangina: i honestly think it’s just a bruise. i want to get back on the saddle soon, but i’ll do what i can for now.
Megan: welcome ! i’m with ya. i think i am going to need an attorney for this one. the insurance adjuster has already tried to trick me once or twice.
Argh, insurance!!!
SV, i’m glad to see you with a positive attitude after another frustrating thing happened!
i so much want to hear about your beach workout and how it’s going as your body gets back in order!
Keep up the great work… and i know it IS work.
thanks, K ! i did weights and swam yesterday. it felt really good so i am looking forward to another great workout today !!
If the driver had a conscience or a shred of human decency they’d replace the bike. Are there any criminal charges applicable for their neglagance?
Being stupid and hitting another car is bad- but hitting a cyclist? That’s ridiculous.
Ian, i totally agree with you ! fortunately, i’ve already settled the ‘property damage’ claim and got a check for a new bike. (did i forget to blog that ?) his insurance took care of it and didn’t even think twice about giving me what i asked for.
now pending is the ‘injury claim’ which can take months or even years to settle depending on my recovery. the $1000 deductible goes towards my medical expenses which are well over $10K right now and unfortunately, the max my insurance will cover. i am hoping that HIS insurance will take care of the rest – INCLUDING my deductible. like i said, it’s very unfair that i should have to pay for anything when i did absolutely nothing wrong.
