the future’s so bright
i gotta wear shades.
the property damage claim was settled. i can now afford to replace the bike and other accessories destroyed in the crash, including new shades.
in other news, the last scab fell off this morning ! yuck, but SO YAY !!
last but certainly not least, i met with my sports medicine doctor this morning to go over the MRI results. here they are in black and white:
1. extensive acute bone bruise of the distal lateral femur including extension involving the femoral condyle. no displaced bony fracture is seen.
2. there is slight edema such as from a posttraumatic change overlying the intact appearing medial retinaculum. the edema however raises the possibility of slight sprain of the structure.
3. signal in the medial meniscus consistent with meniscal degeneration seen to lesser extent laterally. no definite meniscal tear is identified.
so, good news ! my bone is just bruised and i have a slight displacement. the doctor said i can start cycling again, but no more than 50 miles per week for the first 3-4 weeks. fifty is greater (and therefore better) than zero. i can slowly increase the mileage after the third or fourth week, depending on how i feel. running is out of the equation due to the displacement. that’s where therapy comes in. i am scheduled for a couple of sessions to learn basic strengthening exercises which will prevent, or at least lessen the risk of future damage to the knee area once i start to run again.
other than that, things are wonderful. i can go back to swimming like a normal person and i am allowed to sub elliptical for running.
life is good.
YAYYYYY! I’m so happy for you
I hope you can have some fun replacing all the equipment. Even though it’s not under the best circumstances, there’s always something fun about gear shopping, I think. I’m glad you got a better-case scenario and hope you get back to your 100% mode as soon as possible. But take it slow & careful!
thanks Orangina ! i DREAM about gear. now i get to shop ! yipee !! it is kinda sad cos i LOVED my bike, but i gotta put my forward thinking cap on and move along. thanks for your good wishes. i can hardly wait to get out there.
Love love LOVE the great news!!
Put on your shades, SV, and let the light shine (safely) through…
How’s your weekend been, Liz?!
color me jealous. (as in, you get to start riding again…I can only dream)
SO happy you are back to almost normal and can train. I didn’t know of your accident, and I just read about it on Orangina’s site…..I am so sorry to hear about this. Be careful out there.
Hey Liz,
That’s great news regarding both your health and your bike!!

Liz, sounds like you’ll be crossing finish lines very soon! Glad to hear you’re able to get back in the saddle, that’s great news! So what kind of shades did you get?
–Elizabeth
thank you so much for all your comments. unfortunately, i completely underestimated my doctor when he said it would be a “painful recovery.” i did 20 minutes on the stationary bike on friday. by saturday, i was literaly screaming in pain. this took a psychological toll on me this weekend.
Thanks for your kind words on my blog but I have more bad news to report today.
Other than that…your blog entry title for today made me have and 80′s flashback!
I love the 80′s!
Yeah I’m doing all right, getting good
grades
The future’s so bright I gotta wear shades
I
gotta wear shades, I gotta wear shades
Gotta wear shades,
got to wear shades
I’m heavenly blessed and worldy wise
I’m a peeping tom techy with x-ray eyes…..
LOL, I took a trip down memory lane with that title. I loved that song by Status Quo.
Thanks for the reminder.
I’m hoping you recover soon. I know it has to be frustrating. I’m very active physically and was knocked on my butt about three years ago. That was a challenge. Thank goodness it is over!
Sending you positive energy and healing vibes.
Blessings
hey Vegan Momma, i love that song too ! i’m struggling with the pain, but know it will only be temporary so that helps. thanks for your positive thoughts and blessings.
I’m so happy to hear that you’re on the mend and able to get back up on a shiney new bike. Have fun shopping.
