it took me about two weeks to get back into my groove after the accident. when i first saw my sports medicine doctor he said i could start swimming and doing upper body weight training again. that’s what i did during my first week back.

after reviewing my MRI results, the doctor said i could start biking again as long as i kept it under 50 miles per week. i thought this was crazy, but after realizing how very painful it was to pedal, i understood the limitation. the first day back was torturous and cost me three days of rest. ouch !

originally, i wasn’t going to post these logs, but after seeing it all in black and white i couldn’t help but feel proud of myself for everything i’ve managed to do despite how painful it has been.
pat on the back…
I’m glad you posted! It’s inspirational
I’m sorry to hear it’s been such a painful process, but I’m glad you’ve been able to be active. I hope it just keeps getting better & better.
Good for you. Listen to your body, Liz!
I’m happy that you are getting back into the swing of things!! I didn’t get into an accident, but I am finding myself taking more rest days than not. But I got a new bike!!! It’s a Tirreno Razza 3.0. I’m soooo excited! This will be my first road bike. I had a Fuji before but it was a hybrid and it recently got stolen. I can’t wait to take it out today!!
thanks so much for the encouraging words !!
Mary: sorry about your bike. i had a fuji mountain bike and LOVED it. i recently gave it to one of my friends and she’s getting good use out of it. i’m glad you are enjoying your new bike. have fun and be safe ! it’s really ok (and very important) to take rest days. unfortunately, i had to learn that the hard way.
That’s a lot of swimming. I have a sprint distance this upcoming weekend and I’m dreading the 750 meters. 1600 is many more than that.
Wow, I’m very impressed with what you’re doing. I read about your accident and haven’t been back since then until a few days ago. Good job, and it is very inspiring that you’re bouncing back so quickly, getting active so quickly again.
Ian: good luck with your tri this weekend ! is it an open water swim ? i’m sure you are ready and will do great ! do you have a blog ? let me know how it goes…
Tara: thanks for dropping by and for your kind words. i am really glad to be active again !
How’s it going this week for you, Liz? How are you feeling?
