07.14.06-08.03.06

it took me about two weeks to get back into my groove after the accident. when i first saw my sports medicine doctor he said i could start swimming and doing upper body weight training again. that’s what i did during my first week back.

friday 07.14:
* rest day

saturday 07.15:
* 800 meter swim
* strength training: upper body

sunday 07.16:
* rest

monday 07.17:
* rest

tuesday 07.18:
* strength training: upper body

wednesday 07.19:
* 1050 meter swim

thursday 07.20:
* strength training: upper body

after reviewing my MRI results, the doctor said i could start biking again as long as i kept it under 50 miles per week. i thought this was crazy, but after realizing how very painful it was to pedal, i understood the limitation. the first day back was torturous and cost me three days of rest. ouch !

friday 07.21:
* 20 min bike @ gym
* 750 meter swim

saturday 07.22:
* rest

sunday 07.23:
* rest

monday 07.24:
* rest

tuesday 07.25:
* 20 min elliptical @ gym
* 1000 meter swim

wednesday 07.26:
* 1hr spin class

thursday 07.27:
* rest

well, the first week back on the bike was hard. i realized spinning might be too agressive this early in my recovery, so i decided to ride my bike instead.

friday 07.28:
* rest day

saturday 07.29:
* 30 min elliptical @ gym

sunday 07.30:
* rest

monday 07.31:
* 1hr spin class

tuesday 08.01:
* 25 min elliptical @ gym
* 1200 meter swim (pyramid)

wednesday 08.02:
* 14 mile bike ride

thursday 08.03:
* 30 min elliptical @ gym
* 1600 meter swim (pyramid)

originally, i wasn’t going to post these logs, but after seeing it all in black and white i couldn’t help but feel proud of myself for everything i’ve managed to do despite how painful it has been.

    I’m glad you posted! It’s inspirational :) I’m sorry to hear it’s been such a painful process, but I’m glad you’ve been able to be active. I hope it just keeps getting better & better.

    I’m happy that you are getting back into the swing of things!! I didn’t get into an accident, but I am finding myself taking more rest days than not. But I got a new bike!!! It’s a Tirreno Razza 3.0. I’m soooo excited! This will be my first road bike. I had a Fuji before but it was a hybrid and it recently got stolen. I can’t wait to take it out today!! :)

    thanks so much for the encouraging words !!

    Mary: sorry about your bike. i had a fuji mountain bike and LOVED it. i recently gave it to one of my friends and she’s getting good use out of it. i’m glad you are enjoying your new bike. have fun and be safe ! it’s really ok (and very important) to take rest days. unfortunately, i had to learn that the hard way.

    That’s a lot of swimming. I have a sprint distance this upcoming weekend and I’m dreading the 750 meters. 1600 is many more than that.

    Wow, I’m very impressed with what you’re doing. I read about your accident and haven’t been back since then until a few days ago. Good job, and it is very inspiring that you’re bouncing back so quickly, getting active so quickly again.
