yeah… definitely a good idea to listen to the physical therapist. You wouldn’t want to jepardize future seasons by injuring yourself in recovery.

Kudo’s for the crazy injurred training though. Feeling better?

It was alright. It was my first and I couldn’t afford a bike, so I had to relay the bike portion (I swam and ran).

The swim was brutal. I had never swam in open water before, and on my first dolphin dive I choked on a lot of water. From that point on I basically panicked. I wasn’t the last one back on the beach, but I wasn’t far from it.

Luckily we got back to mid pack on the bike, and I passed about 5 people on the run. I’m a much stronger runner than swimmer.

Reading your blog has actually been pretty helpful in my training. I’m vegan too, and have been for 10 years. It’s always frustrating shopping for energy gel’s etc. Vegan endurance atheletes are kind of a niche.

Patience and persistence… and your physician’s advice! Yep, all good ideas, Liz. I know yer champin’ at the bit, i don’t blame you, but keep up the good work and recover as your body is meant to recover!

Ian: thanks for the race report ! i’m sorry to hear about the swim potion, but it sounds like you did well anyway. you can gain the most time during the bike/run, so being a strong runner is really an advantage. thank you very much for all of your comments. your words are very encouraging. being an endurance athlete is hard enough. being vegan just adds another layer of complexity. it’s up to us to show everyone that it can be done.

K: you’re always so sweet. this accident has been a test for me. it has given me a chance to practice my patience. i can’t say i’ve succeeded, but i keep reminding myself to “take it easy” which is a major struggle for me.

I struggle with it too. Patience is a virgin… i mean a virtue. But your body will be back!! It will!!
