08.11.06-08.17.06
well, i tried to follow my therapist’s advice and took everything down a notch or two… or three. it was my friend’s bachelorette party and wedding this weekend so that helped keep me from going insane. still, i feel like i barely did anything. i can see how it’s helped speed up the recovery though. my knee hurts less and it hasn’t been swelling up as much.

Hi Liz… just checkin’ in hoping you will check in…
Thanks for checkin’ in… i appreciate that. I hope you are feeling MUCH better and are back to 100 percent soon, Liz.
*HUGS*
Hey… I know it sucks not to be at it 100%, but it sounds like you’re doing the smart thing by listening to your physical therapist’s advice. I hope you’re finding ways to treat yourself to fun things during the resulting free time– good movies, good food, time with friends, etc.

How are you doing Liz? I started training for my triathlon at my university! It is so exciting! I hope you feel better soon!
i just wanted to express my absolute admiration for you. i admire your yearning and desire to continue with cycling after an accident like you had. i think that makes you a very strong, amazing person.
5 months ago i went to buy a road bike (after months of deliberation — i am extremely short and it was difficult to find one small enough for a good price) from a guy who lived near me. long story short, i made it about 2 feet (if that) while testing riding it before completely losing balance and hitting the ground. i was lucky that my head didn’t hit the ground. it tore my jeans open and ripped into my knee. it’s still scarred and sore to the bones. i am sick at the thought of getting on another road bike. i even tried to buy a mountain bike and my nerves were too much for me.
so i just wanted you to know that someone thinks the progress you have made is awe-inspiring.

K: thanks for always checking on me. you’re really amazing. i haven’t been feeling like my usual happy self lately. it could just be a bad case of exercise withdrawal… your messages keep putting a smile on my face though
Jen: thanks for your kind and wise words. i guess i’m being a big narrow minded. one of my co-workers keeps telling me this is a good time to find another hobby yet i can’t even imagine doing anything that is not active ! you are right though. i need to appreciate my new found free time instead of dwelling on how much i should be or could be training.
Mary: wow ! i am SO excited for you ! what distance are you doing ? when ? where ??
Jessica: thank you SO much for your comment. i honestly don’t know what to say. i don’t tend to think of myself as inspiring, but i would be truly happy if my experience helps you in any way. i know how difficult it can be to get back on the bike after a fall. have you considered spinning classes ? it might help you get used to being on a bike, etc. also, it might be a good idea to have someone with you when you decide to ride again. one of my former co-workers learned to ride a bike about 2 years ago. he was in his late 30s. yes, he fell a couple of times at first, but you should see him now !! it sounds like you already know how to ride though and just need a little practice. trust me, we all do at first. even now, i sometimes still feel as graceful as the jolly green giant on my bike, but some days are better than others or at least that’s the way i choose to see it. if cycling is something you really want to do, don’t let anything keep you from it. i understand it might take some time, but it will get better. so be careful and good luck. let me know if i can help somehow.
