weekend highlights
it’s 10:30 am Monday morning and already more than 10 people have asked me how my weekend was. i responded with a dead stare and something that sounded like the growl of a bashful pup. as hard as i thought of something to say, absolutely nothing came out. so in between prioritizing the patches to be deployed this morning and strategizing how to train the new employee, i tried to think of the reason for my hesitation. it’s not like last weekend when all i had to reply with was “i went to, not one, but TWO fetish parties.”
the truth is i normally like being able to say “i [insert swam, rode or ran] ___ miles.” well, i made zero deposits into my fitness account this weekend, so sadly, i’ve got nothing to say. still, i must have done SOMETHING in the past 48 hours.
the weather must have thrown me off. South Florida experienced its first storm of the year this weekend. it started Friday night with incessant rain. Geoff and i decided to go to Sublime. the combination of an emotionally draining work week and nasty weather made me ready for bed shortly after dinner. the forecast called for 20-30 mph winds Saturday morning. i prefer NOT to be on my bike when it’s that windy so i slept in. around mid-day, Geoff and i got bagels and went to The Brew which got me thinking about coffee.
highlight #1:
i got some nice coffee beans for my birthday. actually, i get coffee as a gift a lot — none of which i am able to use because i don’t own a coffee maker. i am a minimalist so it is extremely difficult for me to purchase something that takes up more counter space than a cup and serves only one purpose. defying my natural tendencies, i decided to get a coffee maker. Geoff needed to buy some things as well, so we went to Target. once there i looked at all the coffee makers. i felt my body twitching. as i turned around to avoid the grotesque sight, i found myself in front of the electric kettles. although i have always fancied the idea of owning a nice [regular stove-top] kettle, i know they’re just pretty to look at but not very practical. an electric kettle, however, could work for me. i could use it for making miso soup, tea and coffee with the French press i already own. hmm… multi-purpose. now we’re talking. so, the first highlight of my weekend is my brand new electric kettle. it rocks.
highlight #2:
that evening, Geoff and i and a few of his friends met for Meze before heading off to see the Broadway version of Disney’s The Lion King. i remember trying to get tickets for this show in NY and earlier this year when i was in London with Geoff. i had never managed to get tickets before so i was ecstatic when Geoff’s friend called some months ago to ask if we wanted to go with them. i didn’t know what to expect, but i was pleasantly surprised and very impressed. i definitely recommend it to everyone ! they even have intermission for us ADD folk.
highlight #3:
the weather was nice again on Sunday. actually, that is a major understatement. it was abso-freakin-lutely perfect. naturally, Geoff and i spent most of it working. we went out for drinks after the show on Saturday, went to bed early Sunday morning and didn’t wake up until later that day. Geoff is away on business this week and his friend from NZ flies in on Thursday so we had about 6 hours to cram in laundry, landscaping, cleaning and packing plus, we had decided to cook dinner at home and bake a cake. fortunately, we worked together and got everything done, including Isa’s delicious Chocolate Raspberry Blackout Cake. all i have to say about the cake is… even vegan-haters couldn’t pass this one up. chocolate-haters (waving hand) too for that matter.
so there. not such a bad weekend after all. i wonder what all the hesitation was about.
