Geoff and I ran a 5K this morning. The weather was absolutely perfect for it. I hadn’t run since last weekend’s half marathon which didn’t worry me so much until that pesky pain on my side hit me halfway through our warm-up jog. I stopped and stretched and jogged a bit more, then hoped for the best as we made our way to the start line.
During the run, the pain was constant, so I had to keep monitoring my speed. The first mile was the easiest. The pain got a bit stronger around the second mile and the third mile was brutal, but I managed to speed up during the last 200 meters or so. Overall, I was super happy with my performance. Even though it was a hard run, I did reasonably well and placed first in my age group.
Geoff was the real winner today though. He shaved off almost 2 minutes from his previous (and first) 5K, finishing with a smashing 26:42 and placing 5th in his age group. His average pace was 8:36, which is amazing ! I feel incredibly proud of him and very thankful to have a supportive partner who I can share a healthy and active lifestyle with. Sometimes, like today, I almost have to pinch myself.
Dinner: Raw Lettuce Wraps
I had to work late last night so Geoff made dinner. I’m always impressed when he cooks (or uncooks, in this case) because everything always turns out perfectly. He puts so much love into everything he makes. Last night he whipped up Ani’s Save the Tuna pate to have with fresh red chard. As always, it was delicious.
