Today’s race was rather uneventful, so I will spare you another long, drawn out race report and narrow it down to 13 short (or semi-short) highlights. Although the actual race was fantastic and not as hard as I thought it would be, I am completely wiped. I have never before felt this awful after a race. Every inch of my body hurts. I think it’s partly to do with everything going on right now: moving plus getting ready for a trip while desperately trying to sell all my furniture. I didn’t sleep a wink last night after spending most of the day on my feet or stuck in traffic. All that aside, I had a great time while I was running.
1. MUST. APPLY. BODY GLIDE. UNDER. HRM. STRAP. All I can say about that is “ouch.”
2. Running snobs will eventually make jackasses of themselves. Example: Guy in front of me in line to use the port-o-potties callously informed the girl in front of him that “real runners” do not run half marathons only to find out said girl was running the half.
3. Do not underestimate the importance of pace corrals.
4. Miami Beach is beautiful.
5. Races can be amusing. As I passed two guys walking VERY slowly around mile 6, I heard one say to the other “I think I finally found my groove.”
6. RaceReady short pockets will hold your gels until you decide to sprint down-hill in out-of-control fashion. You have been warned.
7. Running across the Venetian = priceless.
8. Running past the house of psycho-”mother can’t see you now”-guy I dated years ago = triumphant. I have come a long way, baby.
9. Some people will complain regardless of clear skies, perfect weather, beautiful, flat (thus fast) course, etc, etc.
10. Which brought about this epiphany: South Floridians are spoiled.
11. The resounding force of a large group of people making a lot of noise can take your pace from “hey, not bad” to “I’m a rockstar !”
12. I don’t care what anyone says, the finish line is still the best part of any race.
13. But seriously… protect yourself from that HRM strap.

Holy negative splits, Batman!!! Nice work!
i love your highlights – that’s entertaining reading for a couch potato… : )
Awesome! I was thinking about you yesterday. Glad you had a good time.
Congrats! Sounds like a great race.
I agree, it was a beautiful run…and picture perfect weather. I think the most impressive part was catching glimpse of those massive cruise ships all lit up. It was a beautiful run!
Thanks everyone ! I had a wonderful time !
It’s been -20 here for the last week.
(good job on the marathon!)
Ouch.
Thanks !
I found this picture after I left the comment, but this may look familiar…

Wow. It looked much better when we were there. Hope you’re enjoying the snowboarding seasons though.
Reading your blogs I get that Twilight Zone feeling where 2 people are in the same place at the same time, but they never manage to meet. I was at ING but didn’t manage to see you in the other 30k people there. Then I saw your splits… they were much like mine if you completely reversed order and added 1-2 minutes.
AMAZING! You are my new hero.
LOL ! That’s funny ! I hope we can meet at a future race. I’m doing the ING half again next year with my boyfriend. It will be his first long distance race.
